Product description

Plug it in. Forget about it. For up to 8 years.

A 4G GPS tracker SIM card built for car and vehicle trackers, caravans, asset trackers and personal trackers across Australia. One payment up front. No monthly fees. No recharges — the service is prepaid for the full term you choose.

  • ✓ Pay once, use for 1, 3, 5 or 8 years — no monthly fees, no subscriptions, no auto-renewals
  • ✓ Easy setup — insert the SIM into a compatible tracker and power on. If your device requires manual network settings, the setup steps are included
  • ✓ Triple-cut SIM — fits Standard, Micro and Nano SIM slots, no adapter needed
  • ✓ Multi-network (Telstra + Optus 4G) — works across both networks; network selection may vary depending on coverage and device behaviour
  • ✓ 4G ready (post-3G shutdown) — designed for compatible standard 4G LTE trackers that accept a physical SIM
  • ✓ Built for trackers — long validity removes the recharge cycles that let recharge-based prepaid SIMs lapse

Why a multi-year SIM matters for GPS tracking

If you've ever come back to a stored caravan, trailer or boat and found your GPS tracker offline, you already know the problem.

Recharge-based prepaid SIMs depend on regular recharges — when recharges stop, the service can lapse. For a tracker that sits quietly online in the background, that recharge cycle can become the point of failure: the SIM can lapse while the tracker is doing what you bought it for.

A multi-year tracker SIM plan keeps the mobile service active for years on a single one-time payment. No recharge cycles. No coming back to find the SIM expired because a recharge was missed.

Since Australia's 3G shutdown, trackers that relied only on 2G or 3G can no longer connect to Australian mobile networks. This SIM is designed for compatible 4G GPS trackers used for long-term vehicle, asset and personal tracking.

Will this SIM card work with my GPS tracker?

✅ This SIM may be suitable if your tracker:

  • Uses standard 4G LTE
  • Accepts a removable third-party physical SIM — Standard, Micro or Nano
  • Doesn't require SMS or voice for its essential tracking functions
  • Has monthly data use that fits within one of the available 100MB to 2GB plan allowances

This includes car and vehicle trackers — hardwired, OBD plug-in or battery-powered — provided the tracker uses standard 4G LTE, accepts a removable third-party SIM, isn't restricted to the manufacturer's own connectivity service, and doesn't require SMS or voice for its essential tracking functions.

❌ Not a fit if your tracker:

  • Is 2G or 3G only — Australia's 3G networks have now closed
  • Uses a built-in or non-replaceable SIM, or requires the manufacturer's own connectivity service
  • Requires SMS or voice for its essential tracking functions — this SIM is data-only
  • Is a dash cam, video tracker or other video-based device whose monthly data requirement exceeds 2GB

Not sure which plan to choose?

If you're weighing up data tiers, validity length, or whether a prepaid SIM beats a monthly plan for your tracker, our buyer's guide walks through the decision step by step. Read the Best SIM Card for GPS Tracker Australia guide before you choose.

What's included

  • 1 × 4G LTE GPS tracker SIM card
  • 1 × SIM ejector pin
  • Triple-cut SIM (fits Standard, Micro and Nano slots — no separate adapter)
  • Setup instructions
  • Free shipping Australia-wide

How it works

  1. Choose your validity (1, 3, 5 or 8 years) and monthly data (100MB to 2GB)
  2. Your SIM ships from Melbourne with free Australia-wide delivery
  3. Insert it into your tracker and power on — allow a few minutes for the first network connection

Network coverage in Australia

This SIM gives your tracker access to both Telstra and Optus 4G networks — Australia's two largest carriers. Your tracker has access to both networks; network selection may vary depending on coverage and device behaviour at its location.

Whether your tracker spends most of its time in metro areas, on rural property, near the coast, or on the highway between them, it has access to both Telstra and Optus 4G rather than being locked to a single carrier.

Coverage varies by location. Check Telstra and Optus 4G coverage for the tracker's actual operating area, particularly for regional, rural or remote deployment.

For deep outback, dense bushland or off-grid use beyond any cellular range, a cellular SIM cannot provide connectivity — a satellite-based tracking solution may be required.

Important things to know before ordering

⚠️ Data-only. This SIM does not support voice calls or SMS. If your tracker needs SMS only for first-time setup, you may be able to configure it with a regular SMS-capable SIM first and then install the Lemon Mobile SIM — provided the tracker retains those settings and doesn't rely on SMS or voice during normal operation. Steps are in our device setup guide.

⚠️ 3G is gone. Australia's major 3G networks have now closed. If your tracker is 2G or 3G only, no SIM card will bring it back online — you'll need a 4G-compatible tracker.

⚠️ Built-in and manufacturer-managed SIMs. Some trackers use a non-removable built-in SIM or require the manufacturer's own connectivity service. Check that your exact model accepts a removable third-party SIM before ordering.

⚠️ Validity starts at the SIM's first network connection, not when you order. Your plan duration begins on the date of the SIM's first successful network connection — not the date of purchase or shipping. This means you can buy now and store the SIM until you're ready to use it. Plans are extendable — contact support before expiry to renew.

GPS tracker SIM troubleshooting

Tracker not connecting? Work through these in order:

  1. Confirm your tracker is 4G LTE — not 2G or 3G only. Check the manual or look for "4G" or "LTE" on the device label.
  2. Check the SIM is the right way around — flip and reinsert if unsure.
  3. Allow a few minutes for the first network connection. Indoor or low-signal locations may take longer.
  4. If your tracker required manual configuration, re-check its network settings against our device setup guide.
  5. Power cycle the tracker (off, wait 10 seconds, on).
  6. Test in an area with confirmed 4G coverage — outdoors or near a window if you've been testing in a thick-walled room or basement.
  7. For SMS-controlled trackers, send a status command via SMS using a different SIM to verify the tracker is responsive.
  8. Still no connection? Contact us — we'll work through it with you.

FAQ

Will this SIM work with my specific tracker?

It may work with your tracker if the device supports standard 4G LTE, accepts a removable third-party physical SIM, and doesn't require SMS or voice for its essential tracking functions. Check our GPS Tracker SIM Compatibility List for models we have already reviewed. If your tracker isn't listed, contact us with the brand, model and variant before ordering and we'll check it for you for free.

Can I use this SIM card in a car or vehicle tracker?

It may be suitable for a car or vehicle tracker if the device uses standard 4G LTE, accepts a removable third-party physical SIM, doesn't require SMS or voice for its essential tracking functions, and isn't restricted to the manufacturer's own connectivity service. Insert the SIM and, if your tracker requires manual configuration, follow our device setup guide. For vehicle tracking, you can choose from 100MB to 2GB of monthly data depending on how often the tracker reports its location, with one upfront payment and no monthly fees.

Why did my GPS tracker stop working in late 2024 or 2025?

Australia's major 3G networks have now closed. If your tracker is 3G only, no SIM card will work in it anymore; you'll need a new 4G-capable tracker. If your tracker supports standard 4G LTE and accepts a BYO physical SIM, check its configuration requirements before ordering.

How long does the GPS tracker SIM stay active?

Your choice — 1, 3, 5 or 8 years from activation. Validity counts down from the date of the SIM's first successful network connection — not from the date of purchase or shipping. You can buy now and store the SIM until you're ready to use it.

Is there a monthly fee or recurring charge?

No. You pay once at purchase for the full validity period you choose. No monthly fees, no recharges, no contracts and no auto-renewals.

What APN settings does my tracker need?

Setup details, including the APN setting, are in our device setup and APN guide. Refer to your tracker's user manual for where to enter network settings if your device requires manual configuration.

How much data does a GPS tracker use per month?

Data use depends on reporting interval, active hours, live-tracking use and device behaviour. Choose the monthly allowance based on your estimated or measured usage rather than the tracker type alone — infrequent or movement-based reporting can fit within lower tiers, while frequent reporting or regular live tracking can require higher allowances. Plans range from 100MB to 2GB per month. Over-buying data doesn't improve reliability — match the plan to your tracker's reporting pattern. See our GPS tracker data usage guide for reference estimates by reporting mode.

Which mobile network does this SIM use — Telstra or Optus?

Both. This SIM has access to Telstra and Optus 4G networks. Network selection may vary depending on coverage and device behaviour at the tracker's location. Rather than being locked to one carrier, the device has access to both, so it isn't restricted to a single network's footprint. Both Telstra and Optus are tier-1 Australian carriers.

Will this SIM work in remote or rural areas?

It can connect where compatible Telstra or Optus 4G service is available, subject to device compatibility, local signal conditions and network selection. Check carrier coverage for the tracker's actual operating area — particularly for regional, rural or remote deployment. For locations beyond any cellular range, a cellular SIM cannot provide connectivity — a satellite-based tracking solution may be required.

What happens when the validity period ends?

The SIM stops working and your tracker goes offline. To renew, simply place a new order for your desired plan and leave a checkout note with your SIM ID and renewal request — we'll handle the extension for you. You can also contact support directly before the expiry date.
