The subscription-free pet tracker SIM

Most popular pet GPS trackers lock you into a monthly subscription that never ends — paying every month for years, even when your pet rarely strays. Cancel the subscription and the tracker stops working.

This SIM is the alternative: a single one-time payment for years of connectivity. No recurring charges, no credit card kept on file, no subscription to forget about. Just insert it into your 4G pet tracker and it works for the validity period you choose.

Will this SIM work with my pet tracker?

✅ Yes if your pet tracker is:

  • 4G LTE compatible
  • Designed for a Standard, Micro or Nano SIM card
  • A bring-your-own (BYO) SIM device — not subscription-locked to its own service

❌ No if your pet tracker is:

  • 2G or 3G only — these networks shut down across Australia in October 2024
  • Locked to a built-in SIM that can't be removed or replaced
  • Firmware-locked to a proprietary subscription service

Not sure? Email us your pet tracker model before ordering — we'll check it for free and reply within 24 hours.

Choose your plan

All plans run for 1 to 8 years on a single one-time payment. Pick based on how your pet tracker is used:

Plan Monthly data Best for
Standard 100MB Most dog and cat collars — periodic location checks (recommended)
Plus 200MB Frequent location updates, geofence alerts, activity monitoring
Pro 500MB Real-time live tracking, app integration, active outdoor pets
Ultra 1GB Continuous live tracking, multiple updates per minute

If unsure, choose 100MB or 200MB for the best balance of performance and value.

How it works

  1. Choose your validity (1, 3, 5 or 8 years) and monthly data (100MB to 1GB)
  2. Your SIM ships from Melbourne with free Australia-wide delivery
  3. Insert it into your pet tracker — your plan begins on first network connection

Why a multi-year SIM matters for pet tracking

The whole point of a pet tracker is that it works the day your dog jumps the fence or your cat doesn't come home. A SIM that has silently expired is worse than no tracker at all — it gives false peace of mind.

Standard prepaid SIM cards from Telstra, Optus and Vodafone expire after 28 to 180 days of inactivity. Pet trackers, which sit quietly transmitting small amounts of data, are exactly the kind of low-activity device that gets deactivated. A purpose-built multi-year pet tracker SIM keeps your collar connected for years on a single payment — no recharge cycles, no expiry surprises, no dead tracker when you need it most.

How much data does a pet tracker use?

Tracker usage Typical monthly data Recommended plan
Periodic location checks (every few hours) 50 – 100MB Standard (100MB)
Regular updates + geofence alerts 100 – 200MB Plus (200MB)
Real-time tracking + activity monitoring 200 – 500MB Pro (500MB)
Continuous live tracking 500MB – 1GB Ultra (1GB)

Network coverage in Australia

This SIM gives your pet tracker access to both Telstra and Optus 4G networks — Australia's two largest carriers. Your tracker connects to whichever network provides the best signal at its location, so as your pet moves between home, parks, bushland edges and neighbouring suburbs, it stays on the strongest available network.

Combined Telstra + Optus coverage includes all capital cities, suburbs, major regional towns, most rural areas and coastal regions. For deep outback or off-grid areas beyond any cellular range, satellite tracking is the only option — no cellular SIM will work there.

Important things to know before ordering

⚠️ Data-only. This SIM does not support voice calls or SMS. If your pet tracker requires SMS for first-time setup, use a regular SIM to configure it first, then swap in the Lemon Mobile SIM for ongoing tracking.

⚠️ 4G only. Your pet tracker must support 4G LTE. Australia's 2G and 3G networks shut down in October 2024, so 2G/3G-only trackers no longer work with any SIM. Your device must also accept a BYO (bring-your-own) SIM card.

⚠️ Subscription-locked trackers can't accept this SIM. Some pet tracker brands ship with non-removable SIMs or are firmware-locked to their own subscription service. Check your tracker has a physical SIM slot before ordering.

⚠️ Validity starts when you insert the SIM, not when you order. Your plan duration begins the day you insert the SIM into your pet tracker and it first connects to the network — not the day of purchase or shipping. This means you can buy now and store the SIM until your tracker is ready. Plans are extendable — contact support before expiry to renew.

Pet tracker SIM troubleshooting

Tracker not connecting? Work through these in order:

  1. Confirm your pet tracker is 4G LTE — not 2G or 3G only. Check the manual or device label.
  2. Check the SIM is the right way around — flip and reinsert if unsure.
  3. Wait 1-2 minutes after insertion for first connection. Indoor or low-signal spots may take longer.
  4. Verify APN is set to: mobile (lowercase, username and password blank).
  5. Power cycle the tracker (off, wait 10 seconds, on).
  6. Test outdoors in an area with confirmed 4G coverage.
  7. For SMS-setup trackers, configure with a regular SIM first to confirm the device works.
  8. Still no connection? Email us — we'll work through it with you within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a monthly fee or subscription?

No. You pay once at purchase for the full validity period (1, 3, 5 or 8 years). No monthly fees, no subscriptions, no auto-renewals. This makes it a one-time-payment alternative to subscription-based pet trackers.

Will this SIM work with my dog or cat GPS tracker?

It works with most 4G GPS pet collars and trackers that have a physical SIM slot and accept a bring-your-own (BYO) SIM. Your tracker must be 4G LTE compatible and not subscription-locked to its own service. Email your tracker model before ordering and we'll confirm compatibility for free.

How much data does a pet GPS tracker use per month?

Basic pet trackers use 50-100MB per month. Trackers with real-time location updates, activity monitoring and app integration use 100-500MB per month. High-frequency live tracking can approach 1GB. For most dog and cat collars, the 100MB or 200MB plan is ideal.

Which mobile network does the pet tracker SIM use?

Both Telstra and Optus. This SIM has access to both 4G networks, and your tracker connects to whichever provides the best signal at its location. This gives broader coverage than a single-carrier SIM, which matters when your pet roams.

Do I need to activate the SIM or register my ID?

No activation calls and no ID verification required. Insert the SIM into your pet tracker and it connects automatically. Your plan duration only begins when you insert the SIM and it first connects to the network.

What APN settings does my pet tracker need?

APN: mobile (lowercase, no spaces). Username and password are blank for most trackers. The SIM is pre-configured, so most pet trackers connect automatically without manual APN entry.

What happens when the validity period ends?

The SIM stops working and your tracker goes offline. To renew, simply place a new order for your desired plan and leave a checkout note with your SIM ID and renewal request — we'll handle the extension for you. You can also contact support directly before the expiry date.

Does this pet tracker SIM support voice or SMS?

No, it is data-only. Some pet trackers require SMS for first-time setup. If yours does, use a regular SIM to configure it first, then swap in the Lemon Mobile SIM for ongoing tracking.

Will the pet tracker SIM work in rural or regional Australia?

Yes, anywhere within Telstra or Optus 4G coverage, which together cover most populated Australia including regional towns, rural areas and major highways. Your tracker uses whichever carrier reaches its location. For deep outback beyond cellular range, satellite tracking is the only option.
