This page answers one question: will your pet GPS tracker work with a Lemon Mobile prepaid data SIM in Australia or New Zealand? Below is our pet tracker SIM compatibility list, covering BYO-SIM models and models where SIM support or setup requirements are still being verified — with our current conclusion for each model and the evidence behind it. Each conclusion applies to the specific device version described in its entry: imported and regional variants can use different bands or hardware, so confirm the exact version before ordering. Further down is a second list: well-known pet trackers that can't use our SIM — built-in-SIM designs, plus models whose stated SIM requirements a data-only SIM doesn't meet. If your tracker isn't listed, email us the exact model and we'll check it for free before you order.

How to read the conclusions

  • Confirmed compatible — confirmed working with our SIM in real-world use.
  • Compatible by specification — the manufacturer's published cellular and SIM specifications for the exact model match our core connectivity requirements. Hardware versions and regional variants can differ, and model-specific setup steps may still need to be checked, so confirm the version before ordering.
  • Needs further confirmation — information is incomplete, hardware versions differ, or the device has requirements we need to check with you first. Contact us with the exact model before ordering.

Each conclusion is backed by evidence from Lemon Mobile customer deployments, the manufacturer's published documentation, or an authorised distributor. No conclusion here is a blanket guarantee: manufacturers ship regional variants and firmware revisions that a model name alone doesn't reveal.

Quick check: the four things that decide compatibility

  1. A removable SIM slot — this is the big one for pet trackers. Well-known subscription pet trackers are designed around a built-in SIM that cannot be swapped — see the list below. A user-accessible SIM slot is necessary for BYO-SIM use, but not enough on its own: the tracker must also accept third-party SIMs, and its service requirements must match a data-only SIM (see point 4).
  2. Standard 4G LTE modem — a device sold as "4G" can use LTE Cat-M1 or NB-IoT internally, which our SIMs do not support. Check the modem specification, not the product name.
  3. Australian / New Zealand bands — the same model sold overseas can ship with a different band set; check the exact regional variant for the country where the tracker will run.
  4. Setup method and ongoing service needs — a tracker can take its settings by SMS command, which a data-only SIM cannot receive (the regular-SIM-first workflow below solves that), and it can also rely on SMS or voice features during normal operation — check the model-specific entry before using a data-only SIM.

Well-known pet trackers that can't use a Lemon Mobile SIM

Some pet trackers cannot use a Lemon Mobile SIM because they use a built-in or non-replaceable SIM. Others accept a removable SIM but require services, such as SMS or calling, that our data-only SIM does not provide. The table below states the reason for each model, from the maker's own documentation.

Device SIM arrangement Can it use a Lemon Mobile SIM? Reason
Tractive DOG 6 Built-in, non-exchangeable SIM No Manufacturer-managed connectivity on a subscription plan
Tractive DOG 6 XL Built-in, non-exchangeable SIM No Manufacturer-managed connectivity on a subscription plan
Tractive DOG 6 XL Adventure Built-in, non-exchangeable SIM No Manufacturer-managed connectivity on a subscription plan
Tractive CAT 6 Mini Built-in, non-exchangeable SIM No Manufacturer-managed connectivity on a subscription plan
Tractive CAT Mini Built-in, non-exchangeable SIM No Manufacturer-managed connectivity on a subscription plan
Weenect pet trackers (current models) Integrated SIM No The maker states the integrated SIM is essential to the tracker's operation and is powered by its subscription
Invoxia pet trackers Built-in SIM, not user-replaceable No Service subscription is attached to the built-in SIM
MiCODUS ML100G Removable Nano-SIM No The manufacturer's documented SIM requirements include SMS and calling services, which our data-only SIM does not provide

Can I use my own SIM in a Tractive DOG 6?

No. Tractive states its trackers contain a built-in, non-exchangeable SIM card, and the DOG 6 runs on the brand's subscription connectivity. There is no slot for a Lemon Mobile or other third-party SIM.

Can I use my own SIM in a Tractive CAT 6 Mini?

No. The same applies to the CAT 6 Mini and CAT Mini: the built-in SIM cannot be exchanged, and the device operates through the brand's subscription connectivity.

Can I use a Lemon Mobile SIM in a MiCODUS ML100G?

No. The manufacturer's manual states the installed SIM must have mobile data, SMS and calling enabled. Our pet tracker SIM is data-only, so it does not meet the manufacturer's stated SIM requirements for this model.

Trackers built around manufacturer-managed connectivity pair the hardware with the brand's own service. If the product documentation does not clearly state that the device accepts a removable third-party SIM, confirm before buying a SIM — email us the model and we'll check it for free. If you'd rather pay once for connectivity than pay for a tracking subscription, choose a pet tracker with a removable SIM slot and run it on a prepaid data SIM — the models at the top of this page are the ones we have checked so far.

Setup at a glance

The compatibility table marks which models take their settings (APN, server, reporting interval) by SMS command. The SMS is only for sending the tracker its settings — a data-only SIM cannot receive those commands, so an unconfigured tracker stays silent even with a working SIM. For models where SMS is only needed for initial configuration, complete the setup with a regular SMS-capable SIM first, then install the data-only SIM if the device retains those settings. Full steps: device setup and APN guide.

A tracker can use SMS only for initial configuration, or it can also rely on SMS or voice features during normal operation — location sharing by SMS, call-based listening, or SMS alerts are features a data-only SIM cannot provide. Check the model-specific entry, and when in doubt email us before ordering.

Regional variants. The same model name can ship with different modems for different regions, and an imported unit can fit your SIM physically yet miss Australian or New Zealand bands. Band B28 (700 MHz) is used in Australian and New Zealand 4G networks and can be important for coverage outside metropolitan areas — check the exact regional variant rather than assuming every version of a model supports the same bands.

How we verify device compatibility

Conclusions on this page come from real-world use of our SIMs in customer deployments and from the published documentation of manufacturers and authorised distributors — never marketplace listings or forum posts. Customer-supplied manuals and screenshots help us investigate a model, but they are not treated as published evidence until confirmed against a manufacturer or distributor source. The date this list was last checked is shown at the bottom of this page, and entries are re-reviewed when a new hardware version ships or a customer reports a difference. We don't guarantee every hardware version of a model, and we only mark a device Confirmed compatible once it has run on our service in the real world.

Australia and New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand run 4G networks on overlapping band sets, but tracker hardware can vary by regional version. The conclusions on this page refer to the specific versions described in each entry — if your unit was imported or carries a different suffix or regional code, contact us before ordering. Frequently asked questions

Will a Lemon Mobile SIM work in a Vimel pet tracker?

The VIM-PET4G and VIM-PET5 customer units we have seen use a physical SIM, but the published BYO-SIM and setup requirements are still being verified. These models are configured by SMS command, and setup behaviour can vary between device versions and firmware, so the setup sequence matters. Check your model in the list above and email us before ordering — we'll confirm the right setup sequence for your exact unit.

Can I put my own SIM card in a Tractive or another tracker with a built-in SIM?

No. Where the manufacturer states the SIM is built in and non-exchangeable, there is no slot for a third-party SIM — see the list above. If you want pay-once tracking, look for a pet tracker that advertises a removable SIM slot or a bring-your-own-SIM option, then check it against the list at the top of this page.

Can I use a SIM card with an Apple AirTag?

No. An AirTag has no SIM slot and no cellular connection of its own — it is located over Bluetooth through the Find My network of nearby Apple devices. There is nothing to put a SIM into.

My tracker isn't on the list — does that mean it's incompatible?

No. The list covers models we have checked, not the whole market. Send us the exact model name and we'll check it before you order.

I bought a no-subscription pet tracker that takes my own SIM — will a Lemon Mobile SIM work in it?

That device class is exactly what this page covers: trackers sold without a built-in subscription, where you supply the SIM. Check your model in the list above, run the four quick checks, and plan for the regular-SIM-first setup if your tracker is configured by SMS. If it's not listed, email us the model.

What does "Compatible by specification" mean?

The manufacturer's published cellular and SIM specifications for that exact model match our core connectivity requirements. Hardware versions and regional variants can differ, and model-specific setup steps may still need to be checked — it is a specification-level conclusion for the listed model, not a guarantee for every unit, so confirm your version before ordering.

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 4.9 / 5 from 484 reviews.

I have used Lemon Mobile data cards twice now for my holidays to New Zealand. I have used the data cards in both the North and South Islands and had great reception. The data cards are so easy to use, no need to register to set up, just put the card in when you arrive at the destination and it works. 7 days unlimited data is so much cheaper through lemon mobile than buying a sim card in New Zealand.
