Product description

Pay once for long-term data connectivity in compatible vending equipment.

A physical data-only SIM for compatible 4G vending payment terminals, telemetry controllers, cellular modems and industrial routers in Australia. Choose 100MB to 2GB per month and 1, 3, 5 or 8 years of service.

  • Buy online — no telco business account or sales quote needed to purchase the SIM
  • Pay once — no monthly SIM subscription and no automatic renewal
  • Five data options — 100MB, 200MB, 500MB, 1GB or 2GB per month
  • Physical triple-cut SIM — Standard, Micro and Nano sizes
  • Data-only service — for compatible payment, telemetry and remote-management equipment
  • Access to Telstra and Optus 4G — subject to device compatibility and local network availability

A vending machine SIM is a data-only SIM used by compatible payment terminals, telemetry controllers, cellular modems or industrial routers to communicate over a mobile network.

Data use depends on which component contains the SIM and whether the connection carries only payments and status reports or also remote diagnostics, updates and additional modules.

Use 100MB or 200MB for equipment already known to be low-data, 500MB as the starting point for an unmeasured new installation, and 1GB or 2GB for systems with more connected functions or higher background traffic.

Which data plan should you choose?

Vending machine SIM plans by usage type

Plan Starting point for
100MB/month Known low-data payment or basic telemetry setups
200MB/month Regular transaction, stock and status reporting
500MB/month — Recommended New installations where actual usage has not yet been measured
1GB/month More frequent remote diagnostics, reporting or additional connected functions
2GB/month Advanced connected systems, multiple low-data modules or higher background traffic

These are starting points, not universal requirements. Check the device manual, platform dashboard or existing SIM usage where available, and allow headroom for remote diagnostics, firmware updates and unexpected reporting activity. For how to measure your own usage, see the vending machine data usage guide.

Will this SIM work with my vending equipment?

There are two separate checks: technical compatibility and plan suitability.

Technical compatibility

The device may be compatible if it:

  • Has compatible 4G/LTE hardware supporting relevant Australian network bands — a 2G- or 3G-only modem is not suitable
  • Accepts a removable physical Standard, Micro or Nano SIM
  • Can use a third-party data-only SIM
  • Allows APN configuration if manual setup is required
  • Does not rely on a built-in SIM, eSIM or provider-bundled connectivity service
  • Does not require voice calls or standard SMS for normal operation

Australia's 3G shutdown is complete. Check the exact modem technology and supported Australian 4G bands rather than assuming a machine is compatible because it has a SIM slot.

This is a data-only SIM and does not support voice calls or standard SMS. Devices that require ongoing voice or SMS are not suitable. If SMS is needed only for initial configuration, it may be possible to complete that step with a regular mobile SIM first and then replace it with the Lemon Mobile SIM for ongoing data use. Check the device instructions before doing so.

Plan suitability

The available plans are intended for vending payment, telemetry and remote-management traffic using up to 2GB per month. They are not intended for continuous video, camera streaming, large media or digital-signage downloads, general site internet access, or systems regularly exceeding 2GB.

Not sure? Send us the vending machine, payment terminal, modem or telemetry-controller model before ordering. We can review the available specifications and help assess likely compatibility.

Designed for self-serve vending deployments

This product suits operators and installers who want to purchase one SIM or several SIMs online and pay upfront for the selected service period. It reduces the need to hand over a separate monthly SIM subscription for each connected device.

No telco business account or sales onboarding is required to purchase the SIM. Your payment terminal, telemetry platform or vending-management provider may still require its own merchant account, software subscription or onboarding.

This self-serve product does not include pooled data or a central SIM-management portal. If those controls are essential to your deployment, contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether this product is suitable.

What uses data in a vending machine?

Basic payment and telemetry traffic can be low-volume, but actual usage varies by device and system design. Data may be used for transaction authorisations, sales and inventory reports, equipment check-ins, fault alerts, remote diagnostics, firmware updates and any other equipment sharing the connection.

How it works

  1. Choose a data tier and service period for each modem, telemetry controller or router that needs its own SIM.
  2. Insert the SIM into the compatible modem, telemetry controller, payment device or router.
  3. The service period begins on first network connection.

⚠️ Validity starts on first network connection, not when you order. Your service period begins the day the SIM first connects to the network — not the day of purchase, shipping or physical installation. You can buy now and store the SIM until the machine is ready. The SIM can be renewed — contact support before expiry.

What's included

  • 1 × physical triple-cut data SIM (Standard, Micro and Nano)
  • 1 × SIM ejector pin
  • Setup instructions
  • Free standard delivery Australia-wide

Network coverage and machine location

Check mobile coverage at the machine's exact installation location. Indoor placement, surrounding structures, the machine enclosure and antenna position can affect signal even when coverage is available nearby.

No cellular SIM can connect where the device cannot receive usable mobile network service. Test the modem at the intended location before completing a permanent installation.

APN settings

For this Lemon Mobile SIM, set the APN to mobile if manual configuration is required. Leave the username and password blank.

Vending machine SIM FAQ

Do I need a business account to buy this?

No telco business account or sales quote is required to purchase the SIM — you order it online like any other product. Your payment terminal, telemetry platform or vending-management provider may still require its own account or onboarding to operate.

Can I use a normal prepaid phone SIM instead?

A standard phone SIM may work in some unlocked devices, but suitability depends on the modem, network bands, APN settings, data allowance and plan-validity rules. A fixed-term data-only plan can reduce ongoing recharge and subscription administration for long-term deployments.

How much data does a vending machine use?

It depends on the equipment and what shares the connection. See our vending machine data usage guide for what uses data and how to measure your own equipment.

How many SIMs do I need?

You generally need one SIM for each modem, telemetry controller or router that requires its own mobile connection. Some vending systems share one connection through a router, while others contain separate connected modules. Confirm where the SIM is installed before ordering the quantity you need.

Do I pay a monthly SIM fee?

No. You pay once for the selected service period. There is no monthly SIM subscription, automatic renewal or ongoing monthly contract.

What happens if the data allowance is used?

Mobile data access pauses when the available allowance is used. No excess data charge applies. Allow enough headroom for reporting, diagnostics, updates and unexpected background activity when choosing a tier.

How long does the SIM stay active?

Your choice — 1, 3, 5 or 8 years from activation. Validity counts down from the day the SIM first connects to the network, not from purchase or shipping, so you can buy now and store it until installation. To renew, place a new order and leave a checkout note with your SIM ID, or contact support before the expiry date.

Will it work with my payment terminal?

It provides standard 4G data connectivity for equipment that accepts a third-party physical SIM. Some payment terminals include or require provider-bundled connectivity and may not accept a third-party SIM. Check the terminal specifications or send us the model before ordering.

What network does it use?

This service includes access to Telstra and Optus 4G. A connection to either network at a particular location is not guaranteed. Availability depends on local coverage, the modem's supported frequency bands, device settings and installation conditions.

Choose your monthly data allowance and service period using the product options above.
